Dive Log Manager 1.2 - Update

Dive Log Manager is a free application for Mac OS X that is designed specifically to allow you to manage your logbooks between your Mac and Dive Log on iPhone.

We are constantly working to improve Dive Log Manager and this release adds support for importing JDiveLog logbook files and improves the importer for MacDive.

The JDiveLog import feature is currently marked as “Experimental”. We have tested the importer with a number of JDiveLog logbook files but have not been able to test all the possible combinations of data that can be represented in JDiveLog’s file format. Please let us know if you discover difficulties importing data from your JDiveLog logbooks. It would also be very helpful if you could send a copy of your logbook file if you encounter any difficulties as we can tailor the importer to work with your specific situation.

To use the JDiveLog importer, you simply click on the “Convert” tab in Dive Log Manager and select JDiveLog as the “input source”

At that point, the importer works like all the other importers allowing you to select the dives that you’d like to import from the selected JDiveLog file. We recommend that you keep a backup copy of your primary Dive Log logbook file if you are appending or merging dives imported using this release in case any problems occur (generally a good idea in any case).

This version of Dive Log Manager also addresses an issue with the MacDive importer. MacDive does not distinguish between Metric and Imperial values when it stores “Tank Size” and “Working Pressure” values. The previous version of Dive Log Manager mistakenly assumed that the values were always stored as Imperial values and always did a conversion. This resulted in 12 litre tanks being reported in Dive Log on iPhone as 2 litre tanks. The import of “Tank Size” and “Working Pressure” now follows the “Metric/Imperial” setting you choose during import (by default this is set to the system of measurement defined by your locale setting on your Mac). The result of this is that all dives imported with a given measurement system setting will have the “Tank Size” and “Working Pressure” interpreted accordingly. If you mix and match your “Tank Size” values in MacDive (for example have both sizes of 12 litres and 80 cu ft for different dives) you may want to import those dives in blocks with the appropriate value for Metric/Imperial (say if you did a dive trip to Hawaii and chose to report tank sizes in cubic feet you would want to import all those dives with the “Metric/Imperial” switch set to “Imperial”). No other imported values are affected by this switch (it just changes the display units to help you choose the dives to import).

Requires Mac OS X v. 10.5 or later.
