The new iPhone 4S's have started to arrive and a lot of people will be enthusiastically upgrading from an earlier iPhone. There are a few things that you can do before and during your upgrade to make sure that your existing Logbook data from Dive Log (and applications data from most applications) makes the move to your new iPhone. There is a post on our blog available here that goes into a fair amount of detail about the things you can do to ensure your data is transferred.

The summary is that when you set up your new iPhone you want make sure that you have backed up your previous iPhone via iTunes and/or your Dive Log logbook data through one of the available desktop applications that support syncing with Dive Log. When you set up your new iPhone you want to make sure that you either use the "Restore from backup" option in iTunes (vs using the "Set up as a new iPhone" option) or that you restore your logbook data from one of the compatible desktop applications after you reinstall Dive Log on your new iPhone if you do not use the iTunes "Restore from backup option".

On the PC, Diving Log 5.0 is a free download with limited functionality and can be upgraded to the full version by purchasing a license. The free version is sufficient for moving data between your iPhone best iphone 4 case iphone 4s cases iphone stylus pen and your iPad. Simply tap the "Info" button on the Sync dialog once your iPhone and/or iPad has connected to reveal the "Backup" and "Restore" options which will let you copy your database from your iPhone and restore it to your iPad. Like with MacDive, you might find that you want to eventually purchase a license for Diving Log 5.0 as this will support importing your dive computer (the free version will do this for up to 10 dives but the licensed version is unlimited) and can also help with syncing changes made on both devices in the future.
