accidentally deleted dive log

Hi, new to this forum and I have a question.
Just installing divelog DT and when I was syncing between my iPhone and and my imac I was given the option to restore old log or use new. Not being sure I hit the green option! It would appear that I have lost the dives I had when selecting a "new log" I tried doing it again and chose the restore option but unfortunately that didn't work. I guess my question is, is there a way to recover those dives or do I need to start re-entering them from the beginning?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I'm going to assume that you were using the Wi-Fi Synchronization option (you could have also been using of of the cloud sync options or the AirSync option_. Further I'm going to assume that you ae taking about the "Use new Logbook" and "Restore previous Logbook" button on that screen.
We you sync with DieLogDT (or other desktop options) on the desktop you can "Import/Restore Logbook FROM Device", "Copy Logbook TO Device" or "Two-Way Logbook Sync".Only the last two options will cause the green "Use new Logbook" button to become enabled. When you tap the "Use new Logbook" button it will take the logbook that was just uploaded from the desktop and make it your active logbook. At the same time it will make a copy of your previous logbook and save it in case you made a mistake and want to go back to the logbook that you were previously using. In that case, you tap the "Restore previous Logbook" button and the previous logbook will be copied over and its contents lost (as they are presumably on your Mac).
I'm sure what set of operation you did, but, for example, if you had started with an empty logbook on your Mac and the used "Copy Logbook TO Device" on the Mac followed by "Use new Logbook on the iPhone you would now have an empty logbook on your iPhone (with your original logbook stashed away in case you want to restore it). Now, if you happen to repeat those exact steps (i.e. upload another empty logbook to your iPhone from your Mac and then tap "Use new Logbook" on the iPhone) you iPhone would have the empty logbook (again) and now your backup would also be empty (for space saving reason son the phone we only keep one backup on the phone). Now tapping the "Restore previous Logbook" button would just copy the empty logbook back to the main logbook. In which case, you original logbook would have been lost unless you backed it up using any of the available backup methods (note that Dive Log does participate in the standard iOS backup scheme too so if your logbook is still in your backup you could restore your backup from iCloud or your Mac and get your logbook back too but this requires a full iPhone restore which might not be what you want (
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977) either).
The typical sync approach is to copy the logbook you want from the most up to date device to the "new" device. Then you would use the "Two-Way Sync" from that point forward to keep them in sync (you need to get the same base logbook on all devices before Two-Way Sync" will be enabled.
Hopefully that helps you answer your question. If not, please feel free to write back with more details and I'll be happy to help sort out where or if you still have your original logbook still available somewhere.
Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the detailed answer. Your assumptions as to what I did were correct.
So unfortunately it looks like I'll have to start again. Luckily I wasn't that far in to 20 years worth of dives!
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers,
Mark

Hey Mark,
Sorry that you will need to duplicate work.
If I might suggest, you can easily take a backup to the cloud using either the iOS iCloud Synchronization or the Export->Export active logbook options. As you get content in your logbook that you don't want to loose I'd recommend doing one of those to have an off-device backup from time to time to ensure you don't have to re-enter data if something goes wrong. Note that you can also take a backup directly via the Wi-Fi sync by clicking the "Backup Logbook FROM Device" in DiveLogDT as another option.
Cheers,
Greg
