Manual entry logged dives from a physical logbook?

Post by SporadicDiver »

Can I manually enter previously logged dives (from my physical logbook) into DiveLogDT and/or Dive Log Manager?

More importantly, is there a way to bulk load all my physical logbook dives, say via CSV import? I don't want to unnecessarily spend hours of time getting my previous dives into a digital dive log if I can avoid that work.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can manually add dives in either DiveLogDT (App Store - paid) or Dive Log Manger (Website version with a license) but not in DiveLogManager (App Store - free). Just tap the "..." icon in the toolbar and choose "New Dive" (or used the command-M keyboard shortcut) while viewing the dive list. You can also use "Duplicate Dive" (command-D) from the same dropdown to duplicate the currently selected dive as a new dive. This is particularly helpful if you have a series of dives (say on a dive trip) that have similar characteristics as DiveLogDT/Dive Log Manager will transfer over most of the appropriate fields to the new dive shorting your editing efforts.

DiveLogDT/Dive Log Manager and DiveLogManager can import data from a number of file formats but not CSV. If you can manage your data into one of those formats you can import that data (see the list under the IMPORT item in the sidebar ... examples include UDDF, DAN DL7, UDCF as well as a number of vendor formats). Unfortunately importing data from CSV is very difficult as the data is not self describing and there is no real format to it (for example, do we interpret 18 as a depth of 18 feet or 18 meters?) and we have not found a practical way to directly import CSV data.

Cheers,

Greg
