Perdix ai + temperature data

Question 1:
In DiveLog settings I have it configured to @maxdepth. But, after dumping the dive direct from Perdix to DiveLog on my iPad (all devices have latest update) the dive profile still shows a temp of something warmer than the maximum depth that was recorded for that dive (according to DiveLogs profile chart with the temperature setting set to “show”). Do I have an incorrect setting?

Q2: Assuming the temperature is working correctly…If I change the setting to show Average Temp instead of Max Depth, will that change only change future dives downloaded to the app?

Question 2: Is there any plan to add a feature under Statistics to search on “temperature”?

using v 3.7 (3.113)

Hi,

Question 1:
That setting affects the value that is stored in the "water temperature" field for the dive itself (it has no effect on the dive profile ... in fact, it is calculated from the profile). So if you set it to "@Max Depth" and then download a dive and look at the Water Temp in the environmental conditions section of the dive you should see the Water Temp equals the temperature that is shown in your profile at the deepest depth that you did on your dive. So if the lowest temperature was 70 during your dive but you hit a "warm" pocket of 75 at your deepest depth 75 is what would be shown. Conversely, if you picked "minimum temperature" as your setting then when you download the dive the water temp field would show 70 (the absolute lowest temp during the dive). The "average" setting simply averages all the water temperature samples for the dive and saves that value.

Question 2:
Yes, this setting only affects how dives are downloaded. Basically, as the footer for the setting says it will "Control the handling of dive data when downloading a dive computer". When you tap that entry to change the value, the footer says "When the dive computer does not supply a summary of the water temperature the dive's water temperature will be calculated using the method selected (assuming the dive computer reports water temperature as part of the profile data)." The importance of this explanation is that if the dive computer does report a summary value for water temperature (using whatever method it uses internally) this setting is ignored. Of course, in the case of Shearwater, the dive computer does not report a summary value so we calculate it using this setting but this happens at download time and once the dive is imported, the existing water temperature field is not updated based of this setting (you can manually edit it).

Question 3:
I will look at adding a Statistics section for water temperature in the Statistics. This would probably be similar to how we currently handle depth statistics. I don't know when I might get to this, but I'm happy to look at doing it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I did just verify that things are working in the current version of Dive Log as designed by downloading a Shearwater computer with all three settings. If you have a dive that is not getting you the results you expect, then please send the download diagnostics for that one dive and I'll be happy to review the data. Just make sure the the "Diagnostics Report" switch is "ON" under Troubleshooting on the Downloads tab and then download your Perdix AI and import that one dive again (you can delete it afterwards on the Dives tab) and the open Troubleshooting again and tap "Email Download Diagnostics".

I hope that helps answer your questions.

Cheers,
Greg
