Alright I have had a breath….. I am trying to transfer an ancient logbook from paper to Diver Log on my mac, i have purchased it for mac and IOS , with hopes of using it with my I300C computer but wanted to finally do this 1st.

I did……

and noticed I named the file wrong after closing it so I renamed it, not the extension just the name.

and now the app wont open it

I did save it to my WD drive , its a local network NAS is that the reason why? if so that pretty much shoots app in the ass, if i cant backup or sync them among my devices and keep a master on my own NAS drive

Ok sooooooo, Apologies for the explosion…..

I have transcribed everything now and I have my entire paper logbook saved digitally (Only 187 Dives all over the world).

Now that I know the ins ,outs, no-nos and keyboard short cuts for manual data entry on the DT app I could make money doing it I wouldnt but I could.

Im not one to just give up, sorry for the blow up, it was pretty infuriating, but I guess it happened either when I changed File name , or saved file to my NAS, or maybe because I changed file name, with it saved on my NAS, I dunno but it’s the same reason backing up to icloud is a bad idea for any .sql file right?

I got it ALL to work to include syncing my I300C syncing with dive_log app, which I thought Id have to send back because it wouldnt sync to ANY logbook apps including one it came with.

Ya really have to be a fiddler and a tinkerer to figure out how to sync I300C consistently with Dive_Log app or even its OEM Diverlog ( Iwill never buy their Mac App) on IOS , there is really a few tricks to it, the manual for the I300C is wrong and right at same time ouy……But I can do it and then I can wifi sync Iphone Dive_log with Dive_logDT and all is great and green in the world.

So…. I’m Sorry for troublesome post

I have logbook and its two or three backups I made stored on a local partition on the old rebuilt and bored out Macbook pro with its shiney new terraflop hard disk and RAM that I am using Just as a failsafe logbook now, However I really would like to back it up to a NAS , one of my NAS is a damned WD MyCloud home abomination that was supposed to be a decent NAS for its price but has been a headache.
I wonder if aince it has flipping “cloud” firmware of some flavor that it corrupted my logbook the first time you think? Regardless Im sorted if you can answer about saving to a NAS here locally I’d appreciate it

Whew. Glad that you are all sorted now, but I understand that that was a lot of work.
... but I guess it happened either when I changed File name , or saved file to my NAS, or maybe because I changed file name, with it saved on my NAS, I dunno but it’s the same reason backing up to icloud is a bad idea for any .sql file right?
So changing the filename of your logbook file would NOT have corrupted it. It's just like changing the filename of any file on your Mac. So if you mistyped something or didn't change it right, it will not matter. And your Mac will track the name change on your machine and follow it and DiveLogDT will open it with the new name upon the next launch.

As for the NAS .... as long as you don't have more than one device using, it "should" be fine. But we honestly don't have much experience with them and it would really depend on who makes it and how good their software is. If you have more than one device using it, then it's just like a Cloud drive isn't it, and all bets are off and you can get corruption. Personally, I wouldn't use it. Especially after this experience.

I would keep it on your Mac is some nice local folder and "SYNCHRONIZE" to a cloud drive somewhere or "DiveLogDT->File->Backup" to your NAS so you have access to it there as well. And it doesn't hurt to take a Backup before doing anything major on your logbook file.

Errrrrrrr, mmmmmmmm, yeah maybe. I don't know what it does but it sounds like it's meant to be a Cloud drive and so probably stay away and just use for Backup. I'd have to look into that product to see. DiveLogDT does what it can to detect a Cloud "volume" and if it does, it goes into "Read Only" mode so you can view it, but not modify it. But I don't think we can tell if a volume is NAS or not, I'd have to investigate. You could also "SYNCHRONIZE->Cloud" to a file on your NAS if you want too, but I don't know if that buys you anything.

Glad you are sorted with your i300C. FYI you can download that one via BOTH Bluetooth and USB using DIveLogDT - we support both tech.

Feel free to contact us if you have any (more :? ) issues.

Well I I have a large partition on the mac to stash stuff somit isnt messed with, so I made a folder for dive log files , I am doing wifi sync between Iphone and mac, since manual entry is done I can just dump the I300C to my phone, the sync phone with mac if I so desire ,

I300c is fiddely pairing is fiddley , theres noninstructions saying to hit the select button once you are at “On Bluetooth” screen so your I300C starts handshake, but after 6 hours I figured out thats what has to happen then you get “Pr Bluetooth” screen and the code, tgen itbwill start syncing.

But now its a synch, will just dump new Dives onto phone 1st then Mac. I will send some Backups to my NAS and see what happens, I will change names and such, I have extensions unhidden and I will see how it works.
