Equipment Service-multiple service dates

I am not sure about other users/divers, but as you get more expeience and more dives and of course MORE dive equipment, you want to keep track of service dates. The equipment tab presently does a good job of things except when it comes to TANKS. Tanks actually require 2 different services (Visual, Hydro). Both these dates will differ and it would be nice to have some kind of entry for the 2 service dates for each tank. Presently, I have each tank entered twice in my equipment kinda like TANK 1-Visual, TANK 1-Hydro. So when i select my equipment i select one of them, but at least this way when the hydro dates comes around every 5 years it will notify me as well as the yearly visual.

HI,
The Equipment Service Date support is designed to remind you of the next service date due for your equipment. In that sense, you would want to use it to capture the next appropriate service for your equipment and then update it to the service appropriate at that time for the next upcoming service. In the case of tanks, the original thinking was that you would capture your next visual or hydro in that field so that you were reminded in time for that service. Since a hydro replaces the need for a visual inspection for that period (some shops will add a visual inspection sticker at a hydro service although that is not strictly necessary), you would not typically have both scheduled within the visual inspection period. So the way that this was imagined was that you would register your next visual inspection date and then, after that inspection if the next required service is a visual then you would set the date for that, but if it was a hydro you would set the date for that (If it is was me and I had a visual requirement "near" my hydro date I'd just do the hydro next, but of course, that is a matter of circumstance and choice).
That does beg the question of how to remember what you next hydro date requirement is (without looking at the tank) so you know what to enter for your next service after your current service is performed. Your solution is certainly one, but you could also use the "Next O2 Service" date field (if your tank is a Nitrox thank you would have it inspected/serviced for O2 service during your visual so you could repurpose this field to the hydro date ... which is also an O2 service by necessity). Alternatively, you could capture your next hydro date in the comments for the tank equipment item. In either case, when you have your tank serviced and you are updating the "next service date" you would then enter either the next visual inspection date or the hydro date as appropriate.
Note, the next O2 service date does not also trigger a reminder. So you do have to enter the service date in the "next service date" field to get that reminder. This field was mostly added for regulator service. Again, much like with tanks, if your "next service" is also an O2 service you can see that by referring to this field at the time your service is required. In this case, your next service will either be an O2 service or regular service but you wouldn't do both. I suppose this field could have been named for generally so it could apply for O2 or Hydro or any other special service you might need to plan for.
We could special case tanks, but seems like the solution that you have works for you and if not, I wonder if using either the comments or the O2 service field could be a solution. Even if we were to add a special case for tanks, this would require a database format update which is something that we would have to coordinate with our partners so it is not something that would happen quickly. Hopefully your current solution or one of the ones I proposed above will work for now.
Cheers,
Greg

Thank you Greg. I totally understand the feedback and why it was done in that fashion. Using the example you brought up with using the O2 service date, would it be a bick think to enable a reminder flag for that too? Either way, the work around I am using is doing the job. Keep up the good work.

I will take a look at adding reminders based on the O2 Service date as well. It seems sensible to have the service reminder reflect the next scheduled service, whatever it is. There are always complications in changes like this that I will have to think through a bit more (for example, will we continue to show an over due service if your next "main" service is in the future, but you still have an O2 Service in the past that you never cleared) but I will certainly take a look to see if this can be done in a reasonable way.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestion.
Cheers,
Greg
