AirSync not working - iPhone 15

I've been using dive log for years and I sync between my iPhone and Mac usually with airsync. However, I recently got a new iPhone 15 pro max and airsync is no longer working. On the phone, I enable it, but my phone does not show up on the DiveLogDT on the Mac. is there something I need to do? AirDrop is enabled on both devices. Thanks

Hi,

Make sure that both Bluetooth and WiFi on enabled on both your Mac and your iPhone (no need to have WiFi connected to a router, it just needs to be enabled). Then verify that your iPhone's AirDrop settings are appropriate (i.e. that you allow connections to other devices that have the appropriate limitations for your situation ... for example, if you have "Contacts Only" set but you don't have the current user for the other system in your contacts it will not work). Finally trying doing an AirDrop (file, photo, contact, etc) between your iPhone and Mac. If AirDrop does not work, AirSync will not work and you must have some configuration wrong.

If AirDrop works but AirSync still does not work, try restarting your iPhone and your Mac to see if things change.

Hopefully that gets you going. AirDrop (and therefor AirSync) are pretty reliable, but sometimes the underlying Apple magic fails for a short while. That said, the fact that you have a new phone configured does suggest some unexpected setting that is not what you expect.

Cheers,
Greg

Thanks Greg. I have all those settings correct and also tried rebooting. it appears to be related to my iPhone 15. I was able to do the airsync between my iPad and my Mac but it doesn't want to see the iPhone. if anyone else has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Here are the specs of my phone and software:

iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.4.1
MacBook Pro 16" 2021 version running MacOS 14.4.1

Thanks

You didn't mention it explicitly, but have you tried AirDrop between your iPhone and your Mac? I'd be curious to know if that works but AirSync does not.

I use AirDrop daily for my day job and some days it just stops working (along with AirSync) and then the next day it is fine. I have yet to sort out what is different day to day when this happens. I suspect it has to do with the iCloud account but have been too lazy to sign out and back in to see if it works again as it usually works the next day.

Cheers,

Greg

Thanks Greg. I hadn't thought of that, but airdrop works fine between my iPhone and Mac. just sent a 150mb file in seconds. But airsync on divelog continues to not show up. Unfortunately I can't use wifi sync either b/c of these weird wifi guest networks I'm on. Maybe that'll work when I get back home. maybe it'll get fixed with a future iOS update as it definitely seems to be related to the iPhone not the Mac. Thanks.

That is strange. You might try disconnecting from the Wi-Fi network (but leave Wi-Fi on) and seeing if AirSync works. It shouldn't matter given that AirDrop works but might be worth a try.

Also, you can use the Cloud sync option as an alternative if you have an internet connection. Use the Synchronize/Export/Import items on iPhone and "Cloud" under SYNCHRONIZE on Mac. The other option is to sync to your iPad (would curious to know if iPhone <-> iPad AirSync works) using either AirSync or Cloud sync and then sync the iPad to the Mac as a workaround.

Cheers,

Greg

Thanks Greg, but it seems to be related to my new phone. It’s not just the airsync, but also the wifi sync doesn’t work either. I thought it was the wireless networks i was using while traveling, but i just got home and it still doesn’t work between my iPhone and either the iPad or Mac. iPad to Mac works just fine, it’s the iPhone 15 pro max that doesn’t sync to either. I have to do the manual export method. I can’t seem to figure out why. I even just updated all OS systems to the latest tonight.

Thanks

That is certainly strange. The only thing that I can think to suggest is that you verify that you iPhone is not on the "guest network" side of your home router. This should not affect AirSync but would affect Wi-Fi Sync. If the iPad, Mac and iPhone are all on the same SSID (i.e. Wi-Fi network) then you might try restarting your router (routers have tables, called routing tables, that can sometimes fail to update when a device comes and goes from the network a lot like an iPhone tends to do). If you unplug your router from the wall for 30 seconds for so and plug it back in it will reset that cache (i.e. routing table) and allow it to be rebuilt. This might solve the Wi-Fi sync problem. Again, I would not expect it to resolve the AirSync problem but it might.

The "guest network" feature is similar to what you get in hotels and coffee shops, so I suspect that it is actually something else, but these are relatively painless things to try.

Sorry that you are having to deal with this. I wish that I had a magic bullet for you.

Cheers,
Greg
