Initial setup

Hi,
I realise that somewhere out there if I look hard enough I may find the answer to this question, however I hope some kind soul will take pity on me and help me out. I am new to both MacDive and DLM, previously I used a Windows PC and my Suunto Vytec and SDM. As a new Mac user I am anxious to try out the new functionality now available to me. I have managed to upload my SDM data to MacDive and have corrected some errors that crept in during the import process. I now find myself with the challenge of getting MacDive to talk to DLM, now here is the question:-
Having found the MacDive data file, how do I import it to DLM, do I need to export it and if so do I need to export new dives manually each time and vice-versa?

Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary,

Dive Log Manager (both the 1.3 version and the 2.0 Beta version) already know where the MacDive datafile is located. So you simply need to go to the "Convert" tab in Dive Log Manager 1.3 or click on one of the MacDive options in the sidebar under "IMPORT" in Dive Log Manager 2.0 beta to begin the import process. Note that if you are using the newer MacDive 2.0 you will need to use Dive Log Manager 2.0 Beta in order to import your MacDive data.

Currently, the data flow between MacDive and Dive Log Manager is one way. However, you can either append or "merge" dives that you import from MacDive to your existing Dive Log data (so you only have to import the latest data each time and do not have to re-import previously imported dives). You can learn more about these options from these web links:

Dive Log Manager 1.3

and

Dive Log Manager 2.0 Beta

Also, be sure to look at the "Conversion Options..." button in Dive Log Manager 1.3 and/or click on the "IMPORT" section in Dive Log Manager 2.0 Beta to set the options for how you'd like to tailor your imports.

I hope that helps.

Greg

Hi Greg,
Thanks for a speedy reply, most impressed.
I am using MacDive 2.0.4 and DLM 2.0.9. I have followed your instructions (in fact I tried pretty much the same process before my first post on the forum) but to no avail, nothing happens and no dives are imported, all I am left with is a blank screen. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Gary

Hi Gary,

It sounds like this is probably something best handled directly in e-mail. Can you contact me via e-mail at: support "at" moremobilesoftware "dot" com (running it all together and replacing "at" with @ and "dot" with .). It would also be helpful if you could send me a copy of your MacDive 2.0.4 database. You can find that using Finder at:

<your user name>/Library/Application Support/MacDive/MacDive.sqlite

When you click on the "MacDive 2.0" item in the sidebar of Dive Log Manager you should see two panels. The top one should list all your dives that are in your MacDive database and the bottom one should show all your dives in your Dive Log database. It sounds like you are not seeing any dives in the top panel which might indicate an issue that Dive Log Manager is having reading the data in your MacDive database (it should have informed you if it simply couldn't find the database). Hopefully, if you send me your MacDive database file I can track down any incompatibility that might be causing the issue. I just got the MacDive 2.0.4 update today and while it works with my test databases, it is possible that there is some change in the database schema/format that I haven't seen yet.

I'm sorry about the difficulties, but hopefully we can sort this out for your quickly.

Cheers,

Greg
