dive log dt questions

Post by jhall »

Have tried to add new "city/boat" and "country/region" information, but field that opens only allows for new "dive site." Wondering how to add to these other columns. Tried highlighting column and then clicking on setting wheel, but only have choice of inputting info for dive site.

On the map feature which flags your dive sites I only have 5 that show up out of about 45 dives logged in so far. What is the procedure to get the other dives to show up.

Was also wondering if there are written instructions that tell what information some of the other fields are asking for such as vertical , horizontal, surface, and altitude, and what the buttons "Active: off and on", and "rep/off" and "deco/off" mean?

Thanks, Jon

Unfortunately, it looks like we introduced a bug in the latest version of Dive Log DT :-( If the City list or Country list is empty (there are no existing entries), you can't add the first one. Once there is at least one entry in the list, it will work the way you have described above. To get around the problem getting started, the other way to add Sites/Cities/Countries is to have Dive Log DT add them for you automatically, and so that will at least get you started. In the Dives panel, you edit the Site/City/Country on the Details tab. Go into Editing mode on the Details panel and tab to the City field and just enter the name of the CIty you want. If Dive Log DT doesn't see that City in the current list (which is of course true since it's empty), it will automatically add it. Same for the Country field. So once you've entered them into the Dive, they will now show up in the lists in the Locations panel and you can fill in the additional information about the City and Country beyond just it's name. And adding new Cities and Countries will now work as you expect. I'm sorry this escaped our notice.

Dive Log DT should show all sites that have GPS locations associated with them. If you select a Site in the Locations panel, the "Map It" button should be enabled if it has a GPS location and you can click it to see where it is. If this works, then the site will show up on the world map panel as well.

For many fields in Dive Log and Dive Log Manager/Dive Log DT, you can use the fields as you wish and there are few requirements. But the intention is this:
Environment Tab: Horizontal and Vertical refer to the Visibility. These are strings and you can put whatever ranges or information you'd like in them
Details Tab: Altitude is a string referring to the altitude of the Site and/or the Altitude setting on your dive computer. Each DC manufacturer handles altitude differently and so different strings go in there depending on that. Examples include "A0" or "0-900" or "Yes". Also, if you're not using a DC, you may want to put your own notation in there. The on/off switches are "Rep" and "Deco" which are switches indicating whether or not this was a "Repetitive" dive, or whether or not this was a "Decompression" dive. Dive computers often determine this information too, however sometimes this isn't possible or available or you may have a different definition.
Equipment Panel: You can list as much of your equipment here as you are willing to. Over time, divers tend to "retire" pieces of equipment and no longer use it. But you would still like a record in your log of when you used it in the past. So you want to keep it in the list of equipment, but not currently active since you won't use it again. You can Edit that piece of equipment and toggle the "Off/On" switch in the lower right hand corner turning it Off to make it no longer active. And then optionally show it in your list of Equipment to reduce the clutter.

Don't hesitate to post more questions like this. I'm sure others may have had similar ones. And we'll get the above bug fixed ASAP.

Thanks,
Janice

Janice, Just wanted to thank you for the quick reply. My thanks to you should have been quicker!

Regarding the Map, also found, by playing around, that multiple dives in the same general location are on top of one another and as you zoom in, they spread out so you can see the individual dive flags.

Thanks again, Jon
