I use my macbook to do all my divelog manipulation, and since I am the only user and I only have one divelog. it would be a small convenience that I do not have to open and select the same file each time.
Also regarding the back ups, could you code in some time limit associated with them? 1 month? 2 months? 10 back ups.

Re: Minor request - autoselect last/default dive log
We agree! Dive Log Manager has worked like this from the beginning and will automatically reload the last file opened. If this is not working for you, we need to figure out why. I have not had any reports of this happening to anyone else. What does it do for you? If you need to, you can contact us at support at moremobilesoftware dot com or just in the forum here.I use my macbook to do all my divelog manipulation, and since I am the only user and I only have one divelog. it would be a small convenience that I do not have to open and select the same file each time.
Agreed. It can get busy. As of version 2.4.0, there is a checkbox on the sync page where it will ask you if you want DLM to ask you to take a backup before doing a sync that will modify your desktop version of the logbook. This will give you slightly more control over this. If it matches your work style, you can turn this off so that the automatic ones don't happen and just manually Backup whenever you think it necessary (Menu File->Backup).Also regarding the back ups, could you code in some time limit associated with them? 1 month? 2 months? 10 back ups.
We're thinking about ways that we could automatically delete "old" backups but haven't quite got to that feature yet nor have we figured out a good UI for it. In the mean time, you can of course just delete using a Finder window.

Re: Minor request - autoselect last/default dive log
Interesting!! Well, every time I load Dive log it boots me to the welcome screen
'DIVE LOG MANAGER/DT - GETTING STARTED'
Create New log, Open existing, or Copy from Remote.
Once you told me that this wasn't working as intended, I thought perhaps it could have been an issue with the name of my log, or perhaps the fact that I save it in a dropbox folder. I've since renamed the file, copied it to another location and it still doesn't automatically open once I boot up the software.
I close Divelog with command + Q, and launch it from the launch bar down the bottom. Another thing I've noticed is that the 'open recent' menu never gets populated.
Also< i tried to create a new log, added some random data in and tried to restart to see if it would open, but no luck. Perhaps, I'll try to reinstall

Re: Minor request - autoselect last/default dive log
Well it certainly doesn't sound like it's working as it's supposed to. It sounds like Dive Log DT is not able to save any of your preferences actually. So each time you File->Open or File->New, the name of the Logbook file gets saved in your preferences. Also, when you Quit, MacOS will automatically save things like your preferred window sizes and a bunch of other things in the Dive Log DT preferences. So if you were to run Dive Log DT, change to a "large" window size, and then quit, it should restart at that same window size. Same with your metric/imperial setting. There are many preferences actually. So if that's not happening, then there is a problem saving preferences.
The preference files for all applications is in your home directory and then Library/Preferences and then the file is com.moremobilesoftware.divelogdt for Dive Log DT. If the application does not have write permission there, then the preferences can not be saved. If you are an advanced user, you could try saving a new/temporary file in this folder to see if you have permission, or you could try editing and saving the Preferences file itself to see if you are able.
We have seen this once before when a user had corrupted permissions for some reason. We suggest you run the "Disk Utility" Application (found in Applications/Utilities) and then select your hard drive and then run "Verify Disk Permissions" and then possibly "Repair Disk Permissions".
Let us know how you make out,
Janice

Re: Minor request - autoselect last/default dive log
preferences such as metric are being saved, and the window state/position too.
I navigated to library/preferences/ and looked for the divelog file, but couldn't find it. Strange. However I did remember seeing the pref file when I uninstalled the program to see if that would work, so I booted up 'cleanmymac' and had a look at divelog.
The pref file is being stored in /users/<myuser>/library/preferences/
Could this be the reason for it?

That means that the Preferences file is fine and that is the correct Preferences file that I mentioned. The pref file is being stored in /users/<myuser>/library/preferences/
I suggest using the menu items under the File menu instead of the buttons on the Logbook panel. I think that might do it.

Re: Minor request - autoselect last/default dive log
Unfortunately not
tried creating a new log, editing current one, making a backup. All via the menu items but still the 'open recent' wasn't being populated.
Re: Minor request - autoselect last/default dive log
OK then. The next likely item is that you have the System Preference for "Recent Items" turned down too low. If you start up System Preferences and then go to "General", near the bottom of the page there is a number for "Recent Items" which usually defaults to 10. If this number is 0 (or maybe even 1), then Applications can't save information about your Recent Items. Check this on your machine.

Re: Minor request - autoselect last/default dive log
Fantastic! Nicely troubleshooted. I had it set to zero because I am a firm believer in not using the recent bar. This is the first time it has actually bit me in the ass!!
All working as intended now, Thanks
