I have been very happy using both the Diving Log on my windows computer and the Diving Log App on my iPhone. I noticed that there were some fields (Dive Boat / Dive Master under "Operator/Trip) on the iPhone that I hope Sven incorporates into to the next version of the desktop app.
But, on the flip side, there are some fields that I would like to see in the iPhone app that are already in the Windows Application. These fields include the "Shops / Dive Centers" and "Trips / Vacations" both under the Details Tab. You already have the "Countries / Regions", "Cities / Islands" and "Dive Sites" and you have buddies in another section. The other two "Shops / Dive Centers" and "Trips / Vacations" would be a great enhancement (especially if we can call, email or launch the Dive Center's webpage directly from the iPhone App). . .
Missing Fields(?)
Re: Missing Fields(?)
Hi,
Thank you for your comments.
Dive Log on iOS and Diving Log 5.0 on Windows share the same underlying database format. This format was (somewhat) recently updated to include various new fields. These fields are currently synced between Diving Log 5.0 and Dive Log on iOS, but as you have already noticed they are not all yet exposed in the user interface of Dive Log on iOS. We are working to add support for displaying and editing all the fields that you mentioned and once we do, you should see any data that you've previously synced over from Diving Log 5.0 "magically" appear.
The Dive Boat and Dive Master fields are already supported in Diving Log 5.0. I suspect that you are not seeing them due to the particular UI layout that you have currently selected in Diving Log 5.0. You can choose a different layout (select the "Layout" tab while you are looking at the dive summary screen) in the Diving Log 5.0 interface and that should expose those fields for you.
We are working as quickly as we can to get to all the new features that people are looking for in Dive Log on iOS. Hopefully we'll get to the these fields in the fairly near future. Sorry that we aren't little faster
Cheers,
Greg

Re: Missing Fields(?)
Hi Greg,
Any update on this? I've been using Dive Log and Dive Log Manager a lot lately and REALLY like the software!
There are a couple of little things that either work (and I havent figured them out yet), or may not be implemented yet. One is the tank working pressure, size and material (posted a question about that in the DLM forum) / the other is related to this question.
I have a list of shops in DLM and I frequently dive through various shops here in Florida. On my iPhone I have an option to add Operator & Trip but the only fields available there are dive boat and divemaster. I would expect to see shops/operators in this list as well. For example Shop/Operator - Rainbow Reef / Dive Boat - Tropical Adventure / Divemaster - Jardan.
Is this a missing field or do I have something configured incorrectly?

Re: Missing Fields(?)
Hi Daryl,
Shop and Trips support is not exposed in the current shipping version of Dive Log for iOS. The support is in the underlaying database (so nothing is lost while sync'ing with Dive Log Manager, Dive Log DT or Diving Log 5.0) but was not exposed in the user interface. Support for Trips and Shops has been added to the version of Dive Log that is currently in Beta. We expect this version to be generally available very shortly (not withstanding the vagaries of the Apple App Store approval process). I apologize for the fact that this support has not be available in Dive Log currently.
There is no direct way to specify defaults for tank details, however you can use the template dive feature of Dive Log when creating a new dive to populate these fields based on a template dive's values. When you add a new dive in Dive Log, pick either the "last dive as template" or the "or choose a template dive" as appropriate to pick up the tank information that you want. This will create a new dive with many of the fields populate by the values specified in the template dive. Typically, when you a do a series of dives you'll tend to use the same tank type for each dive in the series so the "last dive as template" option usually works well. However, one trick you can use is to specify a "fake" dive (I usually give it a dive number of "0" or you can have multiple dives with a number of "0") that has the parameters you'd like to use as templates for your various dives. Then you can use the appropriate one as you create a new dive. You can do a similar thing in Dive Log Manager/Dive Log DT by first selecting the dive that you want to use as a template and then choose the "Duplicate" option from the "gear" menu when you create a new dive. If you are importing a dive computer, you can cause each dive you import to have the template information by first creating as many dives as you need for the dives you are importing and then specify the first of these "new dives" by clicking on it in the lower panel of the Import screen and each imported dive will be "merged" with the template information you've already created. Granted, this backs into the problem a bit so we are looking at adding a separate "template" dive option in the future rather than having to rely on using an existing dive in your database.
I hope that helps.
Cheers,
Greg

Re: Missing Fields(?)
Thanks Greg - this helps. Looking forward to the release after beta and a future template function. In the meantime your suggestions help - I'll try them out.
