Data loss while editing multiple records

Post by ericxke »

When editing multiple records, f.i. adding one and the same trip name to a range of dives, data in other fields get erased.
Anyone recognises this problem?
Are there known solutions?

I use DiveLogDT 4.4.6
on iMac with OS X 10.9.1

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Eric,

(We are assuming you're talking about Dive Log Manager even though this is in the Dive Log forum).

It is more likely a misunderstanding of the user interface than it is data loss. When you have a dive selected, you will see each of the values set for each of the fields. But if you have more than one dive selected, like two or three, a large number of the fields will be different between the dives and so it doesn't make sense to display the data for just one of them - that would be misleading. So instead we show a "blank" field to indicate that the values differ between each of the dives selected. If the values for *all* the dives selected are the same in that field, then it will display it. So for example, if all the dives took place in the same Country, e.g.: Fiji, then it would show Fiji in the country field. But since not all the dives took place at the same Site, the Site field is blank indicating that the Site field differs between the dives.

For some fields, only the overlap will show, e.g.: Buddies, Dive Types, Equipment. Only the entries that all the dives have in common will show. So when you go into Edit mode with more than one dive selected, you'll see only the information that they all have in common. And then when you change something in all the dives, they will also have that in common.

Once you go back to having only one dive selected for viewing, you will see all of the fields for that one individual dive again. They are not lost or missing.

Let us know though if somehow you have found a bug and a particular sequence where this is not the case.

Thanks,
Janice
