I'm maintaining the logbook of myself and my wife on one device. This requires all equipment to be entered, and maintained in each log separately. Also, the usage statistics must be checked manually (eg numbers of dives between service). Since we are sharing part of the equipment it would great to have one shared equipment pool in the app so all statistics will be automatically added for both divers using the equipment.
The same goes for locations, sites, etc. etc. to prevent adding everything double. Or at least it would helpful if it was possible to simply copy between logbooks.
Equipment pool
Re: Equipment pool
Hi,
Thank you for your ideas and feedback. We have been looking at ways to better allow you to exchange location information between different logbooks (on a single device or multiple devices) and hope to have a solution for that in the future.
We have not previously considered two divers sharing the same equipment item so we'll have to give that some more thought. Typically, the service interval for equipment is based on calendar dates and Dive Log supports automatically notifying you when the next service is due for a particular item. To do this you would enter the "Next Service Date" for a particular piece of equipment (for a shared piece of equipment you'd need to set this in both logbooks on the device that share that item) and then set the "Equipment Service Reminders: Remind me" in the in app Settings tab (typically under the "..." tab) to something other than "never". Dive Log will then notify you when the service date for that item is within the wind that you specified (you will see a "badge" on the app icon, see the item's service date color coded on the Equipment tab and receive a notification via a banner notification as long as you haven't turned those off). We have not previously considered a service reminder based on the number of dives done with an equipment item previously (do you have an example of a manufacturer that specifies a number of dives vs a time based service interval? I don't doubt that they exist, I just haven't seen one myself).
Thanks again for your feedback. We really appreciate hearing directly from users about how they want to use Dive Log.
Cheers,
Greg

Re: Equipment pool
Hi Greg,
Thanks for your reply. I'll be waiting patiently for the updates allowing to use the data in multiple logbooks.
Regarding the requirement of having gear serviced based on number of dives refer to the scubapro manual (page 14):
http://www.scubapro.com/media/369689/sc ... rs-eng.pdf
(Though I must admit I see it more as a guideline than a hard rule...)
Up to now I have been using the time based interval as you described which work very well, though also here I have to update the same items in both logbooks after service (or just set the interval to "never" in one of the logbooks)

Re: Equipment pool
Thanks for the link to the ScubaPro manual. It does make sense that people that dive more frequently would need to have their gear serviced more often. When I worked as a full time instructor I would do up to 600 dives per year ... but I must admit that I only had my gear served annually (6 times per year to meet ScubaPro's requirement would have been prohibitive)
!
Cheers,
Greg
