Exporting to Dropbox

Post by cmcdarris »

Dear DL,

I use both my iPad and my iPhone for Dive Log that syncs up with my Perdix dive computer. My workflow is that I complete the dive, download the Perdix dive to DiveLog on my iPad, type in all the details about the dive, then export DiveLog from my iPad to Dropbox. I then go to my phone and import the file from Dropbox. For some reason the Dropbox icon is shaded out and will not let me access it. This has worked in the past. I must have changed a setting. Any thoughts?

DiveLog is AWESOME!!!!!

Thanks for all the great work on this app.

Hi Charlie,

This is most likely because the Dropbox app on your iOS device is not currently signed in. This can happen after an upgrade to either iOS or the Dropbox app or even a restart. Hopefully just opening the Dropbox app and signing in again (if you are currently signed in, try signing out and then back in) will restore access to Dropbox from within Dive Log. Please let me know if you are still having difficulties.

Note, as a short term work around you can use either a different file provider (iCloud Drive for example) or you can use the new(ish) AirSync feature that allows a direct sync between your iPhone and iPad without going through the internet.

Please let me know if you are still having difficulties.

Cheers,

Greg

Thank you for the quick reply Greg. The Airsync works great. I will use this instead of Dropbox. As a side note, I did open Dropbox on both my iPad and iPhone and I can access files on each. However, the Dropbox still is shaded out in DiveLog. After trying the Airsync you just told me about, I will use this and not Dropbox.

Hi Charlie,

I'm glad to hear that AirSync will work for you.

*If* you find that you want to try Dropbox again you might try restarting your iPhone and/or iPad. That might help depending on which version of iOS you are running. The ability to access Dropbox is a function of a component supplied by Dropbox and iOS itself. Dive Log is not actually involved once the "browser" is posted. You'll likely see the same thing from other apps (Apple's built in Files app for example) that access other file services like Dropbox. Sometimes the issue is that the developer (Dropbox in this case) does not get their file extension updated soon enough for a given iOS update. Unfortunately that leave 3rd party developers and their users with little recourse. Currently, on my iOS 15.2 iPhone the Files app can not access Dropbox (and therefor nor can Dive Log).

I'll look into any known issues with Dropbox on iOS 15 and post back if I learn anything.

Thanks for making me aware of the issue.

Cheers,
Greg
