Search Multiple Hits

Post by slevi »

Is there a general help doc on searching?

How do I view all the instances of possible hits of a particular search term such as tarpon?

Can I search outside the description category?

How can I search for particular equipment items?

Hi,

Based on the email you also sent to our support email address is sounds like you are asking specifically about searching in our Mac products (DiveLogDT and DiveLogManager) so I will address that first and then explain the search scheme in Dive Log on iOS.

In DiveLogManager and DiveLogDT there is a “Tool Tip” in the search bar that explains how to do an extended search (just let your spouse hover over the search bar). When you enter a search into the search bar it will search the visible fields on that screen. However if you add a “+” in front of the search term it will search all the searchable fields.

If you want to search for a particular equipment item, open the Equipment section in the sidebar and then enter your search in the search bar. If you only care about the name and manufacturer that is all you need to do. If you want to search the other Equipment fields just add the “+” before your search.

When you perform a search in DiveLogDT or DiveLogManager the first matching item will be highlighted. You can then hit the return key to jump to the next item that matches your search.

You can do a similar search in Dive Log on iOS. You do not need to add the “+” for an extended search on iOS. Like other searches in iOS, Dive Log will show only the matching items in the list while search is open. To find the search bar just scroll to the top of the list (tap the status bar and then scroll a bit more) or tap the “search icon” at the top of the section index if it is visible (once you have more than 200 dives it will be visible for example, it is usually visible in other cases regardless of the number of entries).

You can search in any tab, but you can also search in the Statistics section. Once you’ve used a “Dives by” option to narrow your list of dives you can search to find the exact dives that you want.

I hope that helps,

Greg
