How to sync divesite only with buddy's iPhone?

Post by bigplume »

My buddy has a a well maintained list of divesites in his Dive Log, is there a way to sync the list to Dive Log in my iPhone? I don't want to sync his dives, only divesites, then I can manually add divesites to my dives. Thank you.

Hi,

Unfortunately this is not something that you can currently do with just the Dive Log on iOS application. It is possible to use our desktop application DiveLogDT to export dive sites to an "exchange file" and then import that "exchange file" into a different logbook. DiveLogDT can synchronize with Dive Log on iOS via Wi-Fi, Cloud or AirSync (similar to AirDrop). So if you have access to a copy of DiveLogDT on a Mac you can sync your buddies logbook to DiveLogDT and then select all the sites you want in the Location section and right click to open a context menu and choose "New Exchange File". Then create a new logbook (File->New) and sync your logbook to DiveLogDT and then drag and drop the exchange file to the DIveLogDT window to import the sites. Then you can sync the result back to your iPhone.

Sorry that I don't have a better answer for you at this time.

Cheers,

Greg

Thanks for the info, I just bought a DiveLogDT, now it's possible to share lots of information. I have one more questions, Can I add more than one photo to each dive site?

No, we currently only support one photo per dive site, city, country, equipment item, marine life item, etc.. The photos are stored in the logbook database and the size of the database can quickly get out of hand when you have multiple photos per item. We do hope to eventually support multiple photo per dive (not dive site) but that requires a big change to how synchronization between Dive Log, DiveLogDT and other desktop applications works and we have not gotten this done yet.

Sorry to disappoint you on this front.

Cheers,

Greg
