Download Form OSTC Plus Not working

Post by damen »

Hi guys,

Since about a year I dive with the Heinrichs Weihkamp OSTC Plus and it is a great computer, however I’m having issues downloading the dives on my iPhone.

I always get the attached error, tried it with reset PD the dive computer, different iPhone, new install of dive log , but no success.

Also subsurface on iPhone does not download the dives 😩

On my windows or Linux PC it works with Subsurface without any issues…

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Unfortunately your error image did not come through in the post (images are turned off due to spam issues). The best thing to do would be to follow these steps on your iPhone to send me the diagnostics log from an attempt to download your OSTC Plus (I'm assuming that you have purchased the OSTC Bluetooth Download in-app purchase already):

1) Start Dive Log
2) Open the Downloads screen (under "..." by default)
3) Tap on Troubleshooting
4) Turn on the switch next to "Diagnostics Report"
5) Return to the main download screen
6) Enable Bluetooth on your OSTC Plus
7) Hold your OSTC Plus about arms length from your iPhone
8) When your iPhone detects your OSTC Plus (the value next to "db" will populate) tap on that entry
9) When the Download button is enabled on the next screen tap on it
10) When the download completes (or at any point that one of the steps above does not work) turn to the Troubleshooting screen and tap on "Email Download Diagnostics"

You can also attach a screenshot of the iPhone screen in the email that is generated. I will be able to use the diagnostics to see what is going on. I will respond to you via email once I get your diagnostics report.

The fact that it is not working on your iPhone with either Dive Log or Subsurface suggests an issue with the Bluetooth connection but it sounds like it is working with Bluetooth on your computer .... so this is pretty strange. It will be very helpful to see your diagnostics report.

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the quick reply. I performed the steps described, but as the error message came there was no send email in the troubLeahooting menu:

Error message after it breaks off the download:

“ Download did not complete

The OSTC may have disconnected.
Start Bluetooth on the OSTC to reconnect and make sure that it is in range”

When I then go back to the troubleshooting menu the diagnostics switch is on, but no send report is shown?!

Amy thoughts?

Tnx

Hi Martijn,

I suspect that reason that you don't see the "send report" option under Troubleshooting is that you don't have email configured on your iPhone. If you are able to configure email (some corporate iPhone's will not allow email to be configured) you can easily set up your iCloud email on the device long enough to send the diagnostics. It would be very helpful to get the diagnostics as it is hard to troubleshoot the problem without this information.

There are cases where the OSTC data gets corrupted on the device itself so that the requested dive(s) report one size in the dive list but the profile data returned is truncated (this appears to happen when the OSTC battery is very low during a dive). I would expect that your Linux download would also fail in this case though.

Dive Log will sometimes successfully download your OSTC but will get an error while disconnecting from the OSTC. This gets reported as an error, but the download actually worked. In this case you would see that the "Import" button shows dives available to import even though you got the error (you can still tap on the button and import the dives. One case where this would not show any dives is if the most recent dive on the OSTC was older than the most recent dive in your logbook (this might be the case if you synced your dives from another location). In that case you can trey tapping on the "All dives" option instead often reference dive option *before* you start your download. This might be worth a try anyways.

Dive Log (and Subsurface) download your most recent dives first in all cases. So if there is a corrupted and it is the most recent dive then the download will terminate almost immediately. That said, the error message you are getting suggests that the issue is with the Bluetooth connection as a download error due to a corrupted dive should give a different error (although it is possible that you got both the real error and the "disconnect" error so only the disconnect errors showing).

Because this happens with both Dive Log and Subsurface, It would be worth verifying the battery state in your OSTC (Bluetooth might disconnect due to a low battery). It would also be worth restarting your iPhone (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201559). However, since you have been having this difficulty for some time I suspect that you have have tried it with various battery levels and after restarts before. It would really be best if you can send me your diagnostics log.

Cheers,

Greg

Thanks Greg,

As I used the native clients I had no mail activated in the iPhone app. Doing that solved the send diagnostics, just went out 👌
