Apple watch Ultra dive function
Apple watch Ultra dive function
With the new release of the Apple Watch Ultra, once Oceanic release the dive app, will you make it compatible to download the logs from the watch via Bluetooth? I’m assuming the oceanic app will use the same transfer protocols as the ProPlus4.
Re: Apple watch Ultra dive function
We are, of course, interested in supporting the Ultra. Unfortunately this will likely not be based on interfacing with the Oceanic+ app as Oceanic/Huish (see their FAQ about the Ocean+ app) has made it clear that they will not support exporting data for consumption by 3rd party apps. The transfer protocols for the ProPlus4 are based the ProPlus4 sharing data with the DiverLog+ app via Bluetooth. This situation will not exist with the Ocean+ app as it can upload its data directly to the Web (or an iPhone app if they introduce one) directly from the Ultra.
Our support the Ultra as a dive recorder will likely be based on Apple's APIs and protocols rather than trying to work with the Ocean+ app directly. It is possible that the Ocean+ app may eventually provide an export format that we can parse, but based on their current statements this is not in their plans.
It is still early days and we are looking at all the possibilities still.
Cheers,
Greg
