Shearwater computers track 2 data points I can’t find in DiveLog: GF99 is tracked at all recorded intervals and SurfGF is tracked with a single data point at the end of the dive.
Can DiveLog input this data and store it somewhere?
I think the best fit for SurfGF would be the Dive Metrics section, but I don’t see a field to enter the number. The best for GF99 would be for it to appear in the charts like depth, NDL, CNS, etc.
Shearwater GF data
Re: Shearwater GF data
Hi,
Indeed, we do not currently parse the GF99 field in the Shearwater sample data (although I do know where it is). This is primarily because we do not have a suitable place to record this value in our current database format. This value is not currently reported by many other manufactures (actually none that I know of) and it would require a database format revision for Dive Log (and all the compatible applications that use the same database format). This is not a value that has been requested by other users but we'd certainly be happy to hear if it is important to other users as well. We do appreciate feedback to help inform how we allocate our (limited) development resources.
I'm not sure what the "SurfGF" value is. We do report the Low and High GF values reported by Shearwater (they are recorded in the "Notes" section of the Dive Metrics area of Dive Log. You can certainly manually add the SurfGF value in that section. I just reviewed the Shearwater data format document (Shearwater is one of the few manufactures that shares their data format with us) and am not seeing a value that obvious corresponds to "SurfGF". However I may be looking for the wrong thing. Please feel free to share more details about what exactly this value refers to and I can take another look. Assuming we can find it in the data, it is not that hard to add it to the "Notes" field in the Dive Metrics section.
BTW, I'm not seeing these values reported by Shearwater Cloud either ... but I am not a very proficient users of Shearwater Cloud so if you can point me to an example of this data (particularly SurfGF) in Shearwater Cloud that might help me to better understand which value this is in the underlying data.
Thanks,
Greg

Re: Shearwater GF data
I would be happy to see the GF99 and SurfGF values added.
This site has a good explanation of what they represent: https://scubatechphilippines.com/scuba_ ... -settings/
Essentially, GF99 tells whether you are off-gassing, and how rapidly. SurfGF shows how close you are to the m-value.
Shearwater Cloud shows SurfGF from the end of the dive in the Deco section. They show GF99 in the line chart.

Re: Shearwater GF data
That is very helpful, thank you for the background!
We would need to update our database format to support these values in the dive profile which is a bit of an undertaking. We do have this on our future todo list though and this background information helps motivate the priority of this feature.
Cheers,
Greg
