not merging properly doubling up dives

Post by smithy.10 »

Hi there, i have put the information of my dives on my iPad, then i synced my dive computer with my mac, then i synced the iPad with the mac, using 2way sync, when i looked on the mac and the iPad it had put the information from the iPad into a separate dive log but named it the same number so i now have 2 number 60s, one has my dive computer information and one has the iPad information, i thought it was meant to merge into one folder?

I hope this makes sense, and has anyone any ideas why or how this happens.

thanks paul

Hi Paul,

It's not completely clear, but it seems like you're using Dive Log Manager on the desktop? Assuming so for now.

The operations are a bit confusing so I'll just tell you what's happening in our terminology so you can perhaps understand better how we intend things to work. So what's happening is that you are adding a dive on the iDevice, then you're also adding a dive on the desktop. So you're adding 2 dives so the "Two Way Sync" is correctly keeping both dives. You can have dives with the same dive number or the same (approximate) time in your logbook - we don't make either of those be unique. There are situations where a diver might want this.

The order of operations I think you want is this: You add a dive on your iDevice, then you sync it to your desktop (either via Two Way Sync OR Copy Logbook FROM device). Then you download your dive computer. Then you *merge* in the dive computer information into the dives you have already added. Then you sync your logbook back to your iDevice (either via Two Way Sync OR Copy Logbook TO Device).

WIth Two Way Sync, all of the information is analyzed by *WHEN* it happened so it looks at the date and time of when a change was made and when the last time the 2 logbooks were "in sync" and decides what to do based on that information.

Now to get back to where you were so you can try this again, there are a couple of options:
1) First, on your iDevice, if you go to the "Synchronization" page, it will give you a button to "Restore Previous Logbook". If that's enabled, you can use it and your old logbook will be restored. Then "Copy Logbook FROM Device". Then re-download your dive computer and merge in the information from it into the dives you added on your iDevice.
2) Dive Log Manager creates a backup of your logbook file in the same folder with a timestamp on it. See if you can find one from before you downloaded the DC. You can just copy/rename/change the name of the file so that the backup is now your "real" logbook. "Two Way Sync". Then Re-download the DC and merge as above.
3) If you want, you can just make the logbook on your desktop the same as the one on your iDevice. Just use "Copy Logbook FROM Device" and your desktop version will be the same as the iOS one. Re-download the DC and merge.
4) You can delete the "extra" dives that have your dive computer information. Re-download the DC and merge as above.

Then "Copy Logbook TO Device" to make the two logbooks "in sync" again with your iDevice.

Please feel free to contact us at support if you have any further questions or if something isn't clear.
