Suunto Nautic
Suunto Nautic
Does Dive Log iOS support wireless transfer of data from the new Suunto Nautic?
Re: Suunto Nautic
No, we can not directly download the Nautic, however, you can likely import Nautic data using either the Import->Import Garmin Fit Format or the Import->Suunto JSON Format option on the Synchronization tab in Dive Log. The Suunto app can download the Suunto Ocean and we assume the Nautic and can then export the dive(s) in either the FIT or Suunto JSON format. You can then import that data into Dive Log. I would recommend using the Suunto JSON format if that is an option for you as it contains a bit more data than the FIT format (as exported by Suunto).
We have not seen data directly from the Nautic yet in either the FIT format or the Suunto JSON format so, while it will likely work, we may misidentify the dive computer model as "Ocean" instead of Nautic. If you create either or both files formats with the Nautic and want to send us a copy we can make adjustment in Dive Log to more specifically support the Nautic. Just send the files to our support email address (support 'at' moremobilesoftware 'dot com).
Cheers,
Greg

Re: Suunto Nautic
We just updated Dive Log to support importing Suunto JSON format files that originated from the Suunto Nautic. Dive Log Version 3.9.1 has this new support. You can either select Dive Log directly as a destination when exporting a Suunto JSON format file from the Suunto app or you can save the file and use the Import->Suunto JSON Format option on the Synchronization tab in Dive Log option to import the data.
Note that at this time, the Suunto app does not appear to be correctly exporting FIT file for the Nautic. The Suunto JSON format contains more data fields than the FIT format exported for the Ocean, so you are probably better off with the Suunto JSON format anyways. Once we are able to get a valid FIT file from the Nautic we will update the Garmin FIT Format import to work with the Nautic as well.
Cheers,
Greg

Re: Suunto Nautic
Just a quick update on FIT files from the Nautic. We have not received a valid FIT file generated from the Suunto App for the Nautic. The next update to Dive Log will support the Nautic FIT files as well as the Suunto JSON files (the JSON files still contain more information than the FIT files).

Hi Greg
Thanks for sharing these updates. Do you think wireless transfer will be an option soon - like for Suunto D5 - which is really what is useful. Working with exporting and importing of files is not optimal.

Re: Suunto Nautic
Hi Thomas,
You are welcome.
The next update to Dive Log was released yesterday and it does contain the FIT file import update for the Nautic.
Unfortunately I would not expect a direct download (like the D5) in the near term. We have looked at this along with some other developers in the community and have not made much progress. We do still hope to eventually make this work, but the Nautic and the Ocean are very different from the previous device family (EON and D5) and we have not managed to reverse engineer the details yet.
One thing that we added recently was the ability to directly export from the Suunto app to Dive Log with out having to save the file first. When you choose the Export option (either JSON or FIT) in the Suunto app you should see Dive Log listed as a destination (if not, you may need to edit the list of displayed destinations to include Dive Log during the export process). This will take you directly to the Import screen with the Suunto JSON or FIT file already loaded and ready to be imported. Hopefully this will make the Export/Import process less inconvenient.
Cheers,
Greg

Re: Suunto Nautic
Again thanks - direct export sounds like a feasible way forward - until you manage to crack the nut for wireless transfer
