Marine Life
Where can I get a Marine Life file to import.
Re: Marine Life
If you are referring to the "dlexch" (Dive Log Exchange) files, they are meant to be used to exchange items between different versions of all of our App's. So you can exchange them between different users and different logbooks on the same platform, or you can exchange them between different users on different platforms (macOS, iOS, ipadOS, Windows). So if you know someone with a Dive Log Logbook, they can export a selection of their Marine Life information and then it can be imported into any other logbook. But there is no repository of "dlexch" files anywhere.
There isn't a web service like eol.org that can export information into our "exchange" format. With eol.org being down, it's just annoying. At least the website is back up this morning, but their published API that we use to lookup Marine Life is still not working and is giving an "internal server error - 500" response to any query. But since the whole website is no longer giving that same error, one hopes that someone there is actually working on it now. If you go to the site in a browser and then go to "Contact Us", there is an email address with the responsible person, how to report errors, and a link to their own discussion forums. You could post there, but there does not seem to be any answer from them from any other enquiries about the site being down.
Hope that answers your question.

Re: Marine Life
As we had hoped, the eol.org search API is now working again - just started. I guess someone came back to work on Monday morning

Re: Marine Life
Again, eol.org API is not working and really slooooow
Any chance to get a stable API so that it will run for the next century? Or using a stable service from another site?

Re: Marine Life
Yes, I see that the whole site is down at the moment
. Do you have a suggestion for a different site?
It seems like eol.org is the only game in town AND it's also free. I do notice that it doesn't receive a lot of traffic or requests in their forums though. If you look at https://discuss.eol.org, it appears to be up. If you're feeling adventurous, you could post something there or even contact the administrator via their publicly available email address asking when it's expected to be back up.
I understand it's frustrating when a site is not available at the same time you are ....
