Sync problem

Post by awswimmer »

I have an unsynchronized dive problem! I have the dives from the screenshot in MacDive2, and have synced them to DLM. DLM shows all the MD@ dives and those I manually entered into Dive Log on the IPhone and synced "back".

When I try to sync TO the iPhoneI get the message as per second screenshot but dive 42 does not show on the phone!

What am I doing wrong?

Hello awswimmer,

Looking at your "messages" screen shot, both Dive Log Manager and Dive Log (on iPhone) seem to be satisfied that the file transferred properly. It would be very difficult to "drop" a dive out of a database file. So my guess is that the dive is somehow not imported into DLM "properly". Your screen shot shows what it looks like *before* you import from MacDive, but it would be great to see what it looks like *after* the dive has been imported.

So once you've selected the MacDive dive you want to import, and the place in DLM where you want to import it into (starting dive#), then click Import and OK. If you selected a starting dive# that already exists in your DLM logbook, the MacDive dive information will be *merged* into the existing DLM dive. If your selected starting dive# does not exist yet in your DLM logbook, the MacDive dive will be *added* into your DLM Logbook.

*Then* go back to the Dives panel and look at the list and select that dive. Does all the right information show up as you expect in the Summary information above?

*Then* touch "Enable Sync" in Dive Log on iPhone. Then select the iPhone in the panel list and transfer the entire logbook file over *TO* the phone. Can you see that dive on the phone now?

Let us know which part of this isn't working,
Cheers,
Janice

It all seems to go wrong at the last stage, I wonder if it is really a problem with Dive Log, which I note is a MMS programme too, but it clearly only shows 41 dives when it should show 42! I was convinced I am doing it right, so that helps, but I am bemused! ;)

I tried starting a new logbook and then synching - the logbook was still empty, looks like a dive log problem! :?:

Hi Andy,

One thing that is not as obvious with Dive Log on iPhone as it should be is that the new logbook that you sync over from Dive Log Manager (or any other compatible application) is not automatically loaded. After you have successfully transferred a logbook to the iPhone, the "Use new Logbook" button on the Synchronization tab should become active and turn Green in color. You need to tap this button to install the new logbook in place of the existing logbook on your iPhone (note that at that point the "Restore Previous Logbook" button will turn Red so that you can revert to your original logbook in case something was wrong with the transfer).

If tapping the "Use new Logbook" button does not cause your iPhone to show all the dives that you have transferred (maybe you are already doing this step) please let us know. In that case, we'll maybe ask you to send us your MacDive2 file so that we can try to further narrow done the issue (contact us at the support email address: support 'at' moremobilesoftware 'dot' com - (remove the spaces and replace 'at' with @ and 'dot' with .) so we can sort through the issue off the list as it appears to be very specific to your situation.

Cheers,

[quote="support"]Hi Andy,

I can only agree with that statement! If I had known that (or there were instructions to tell me that!) I would have saved AT LEAST 3 hors trying to make it work - I deliberately did not press "use new log book" as I did not want to start a new one bit to use an updated one - new name for green button chaps!

Really quite P'd off to be honest, but love the app otherwise! :x

I'm very sorry about the confusion and for the wasted time.

Thank you very much for pointing out the weakness of the current design and how you interpreted the meaning of the text on the button. I will certainly try to improve this design in a future version of Dive Log. Your feedback will be helpful.

Cheers,

Greg
