Hi
I'm using DiveLogDT on a Mac and the app on iOS to update my son's logs. I've downloaded the dives from his dive computer. He has already added the dives manually adding in details of dive site and in the description field of what he saw on each dive.
If I do a two way sync, will it keep all the details he has put in manually, but update them with the info from his dive computer?
Thanks
Simon
Two way sync
Re: Two way sync
Hi,
No, Two-Way Sync will not automatically merge dives as it treats each dive as a unique dive and does not try to "match them" automatically. However, you can do what you want to do with slightly different steps.
Given that you have already downloaded his dive computer with his new dives (that match the dives manually added on his iPhone), you'll need to back out of that step. You can do this by deleting the dive computer dives on the Mac first, or if the dive log on the iPhone is otherwise complete other than the dive computer data them you can just import the iPhone logbook into DiveLogDT and proceed from there. In this latter case, just sync with the iPhone and choose "Copy Logbook FROM Device". This will replace the current logbook in DiveLogDT with the exact contents of the iPhone one (including the manually entered dives). If there is some data in the Mac logbook, (other than the newly added dive computer dives) then you can delete the dive computer dives first and then do a Two-Way sync with the iPhone to get the new manually entered dives on the phone into DiveLogDT and to update the iPhone with any changes from DiveLogDT.
Now that you have all the manually entered dives from your son's iPhone in DiveLogDT, you can proceed with the normal process to merge the manually entered dives with the dive computer data.
1) Start the download process of the dive computer as you normally would.
2) In the upper panel select all the dives that match the dives that were manually entered.
3) In the lower panel select the first dive (one of the manually entered dives) that matches the first dive selected in the upper panel. You should see the field "Starting Dive#" update accordingly. (You can also just enter the Dive number manually)
4) Click "Import"
DiveLogDT will proceed to import each dive computer dive from the top panel merging it with each dive in order starting with the first dive you selected in the lower panel. Once done, you can Two-Way sync with the iPhone again so that he has his full record on the iPhone too.
Please note that we do not attempt to "match" dives based on any criteria. The "merge" proceeds one dive at a time in order. So if there is a gap in the manually entered dives or extra dive computer dives, then subsequent dives will be merged with the wrong dive. You can resolve this by importing the dive computer dives in blocks that exactly line up with the existing manually entered dives.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need any more assistance.
Cheers,
Greg
